“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ…”
Philippians 2:5
Thus begins the powerful passage describing Jesus as the suffering servant. It is one of the most insightful descriptions of the incarnation as Jesus “emptied himself” and became obedient to the Father, even unto death on the cross.
To have a mind like that of Jesus is a radical transformation.
It means that we know who we are as sons and daughters of God.
It means that we embrace God’s calling and purpose for our lives as it pertains to both who we are and what we do.
It means that we see people the way Jesus sees them, with love and compassion.
It means that the noise of this world, media, and culture has been replaced with the transcendent presence of God through the Holy Spirit.
This is quite a challenge! It is easier to stay the same, internally. It is easy to be polluted by the world and by our past. But Jesus calls us to much more. The potential to have our minds shaped to look like the mind of the Lord is truly amazing. May we grow towards this.
