The World Comes to Eugene

July 16th, 2022|

Yesterday was the first day of the World Track and Field Championships. It is being held at the new track in Eugene, Oregon. As I watched the highlights it took me back in time to the days when I ran there.

We all are called to run this race of life with the goal of finishing well.

The Perfect Race

Hayward Field is the mecca for track and field in the United States. It is holy ground. More Olympic Trials, U.S. Championships, and NCAA Championships have been held there than any other location […]

Disturbing Days…What to do?

May 26th, 2022|

If you’re like me, you’re feeling disturbed and upset by the onslaught of some really bad news. The school shooting in Texas is horrific.

UVALDE, TX – MAY 24: Law enforcement work the scene after a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School where 19 people, including 18 children, were killed on May 24, 2022 in Uvalde, Texas. Waiting

May 18th, 2022|

I have never been a naturally patient person.

I run fast. I plan my day. I think ahead. I keep a schedule. I try to guess which grocery line is the quickest, but usually am wrong and get frustrated as my line ends up being the slowest. I am the first one in the car and often find myself idling while waiting for my significant others to catch up. No one likes being stuck in traffic and I don’t like being stuck in church services or in meetings that are dragging on long after […]

April 29th Update

April 29th, 2022|

Heidi and I are back in Eureka before heading to Oregon and then Washington. Our recent travels were productive, fruitful, and somewhat restful. Heidi stayed especially busy in her role as a Regional Pastor. I believe that our landing place for the next season will come into focus during the next eight weeks. Early this week, I completed some training in church consultation. The training will definitely be useful to me as a leader, wherever the Lord leads. https://malphursgroup.com/

I have been reflecting on Haggai 2, and realize that I have spent […]

The Power of Friendship

April 12th, 2022|

Heidi and I just visited six national parks in seven days. Our son and daughter-in-law joined us for an unforgettable week. We went from Capital Reef, to Zion, to Bryce Canyon, to Canyonlands, to Arches, and to the Grand Canyon. It was amazing! I have been getting back into trail running and the altitude has been beneficial. We have had mostly great weather, but also had a night at 23 degrees and a little bit of snow. Now we are in Tucson, Arizona, staying in the (vacant) home of Greg and Barb Morse, who are in Eureka.

During the […]
